Audition Info for the 2023-24 Yale Concert Band

The 2023-24 Yale Concert Band will rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Tuesday, September 5, from 4:10 to 6:15 PM in the Bandroom, Room 301 Hendrie Hall in the Adams Center for Musical Arts, 165 Elm Street. 

Formal auditions for the Yale Concert Band have ended but there is still the possibility of a late audition. Please review the audition materials below and contact Mr. Duffy if you would like to arrange an audition.

Audition Information. (10:00 audition slot)

  1. Required audition pieces:
    - Woodwinds: William Tell Overture
    - Brass: William Tell Overture and/or Chester
    - harp: Quiet City
    - timpani: Be Glad Then, America
    - percussion: Variations on a Korean Folk Song
    Download PDFs (below) and prepare your chosen part. The Director will hear the selected excerpts from the piece during your audition. If no excerpts are selected, you should be prepared to play the entire selection.
  2. Prepared solo piece: Prepare up to 5 minutes of a solo piece for your instrument (e.g., an All-State audition piece or comparable etude).
  3. Sight reading: There will be some sight reading. 

Follow tempo markings on the part.  If you cannot play as fast as the recording (below), play as fast as you can play well.
