The Yale Concert Band, Yale’s premier wind ensemble (Thomas C. Duffy, Music Director), and the Yale Jazz Ensembles Big Band (Wayne Escoffery, Music Director) present two settings of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite.” With both bands seated side by side on stage, the YCB performs the traditional classical arrangement by Mayhew F. Lake, with the YJE answering movements with Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn’s jazzy interpretation of this holiday classic (where “Dance of the Reed-Pipes” becomes “Toot Toot Tootie Toot” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” becomes “Sugar Rum Cherry,” and more!) |

The Thomas C. Duffy Yale Concert Band Spring Concert, Thomas C. Duffy, Music Director. Yale’s premier wind ensemble will present the premiere of “Juvenalia” for Solo Percussion and Wind Ensemble by Robert Honstein, featuring Garrett Arney. Honstein is a graduate of Yale College and the Yale School of Music, and Arney is a graduate of the Yale School of Music, where he studied percussion under Robert van Sice.
