Carleton Rosenburgh:
“In a beautiful Swiss town surrounded by a lake, we did an evening concert in the town square. Our final encore was the Stars and Stripes. There were ten or so trumpet/cornet players in the back row and behind us were a number of youngsters playing. We each reached down with our left arm and raised a youngster up while we held our instrument and played with our right arm, hand and lips. It was a SMASH with the crowd opening up the outdoor cafes to us to join them in beers until 2:00am or so. We departed the next morning around 8:00am with nothing but wonderful memories.”

Peter Pastreich:
“I was tour manager, and that did change my life. I retired in 1999 after 22 years as Executive Director of the San Francisco Symphony, but have continued working in the orchestra management field since then, consulting and teaching. I have a large collection of photographs made during the 1959 and 1962 tours (I returned to manage the 1962 European tour, made with the Rutgers University Chorus, under the auspices of Carnegie Hall), and reams of correspondence as well. I can make copies if someone lets me know in what format they would be most useful.”
