Brass

Section Leader: Owen Prem

Brass likes things big.

First, of course, we’ve got the biggest instruments. Trombones, Mellophones, Sousaphones, and Trumpets create the core of the band’s sound, and without us things would kind of epically fall apart. So if you want to be important, this is the place to be.

Brass does not just the have the most important instruments in the band: we ARE the band. When we play, people turn their heads. They can’t take their eyes, or ears, off of us. And when we aren’t playing, who cares? Let’s be frank. It’s about us.

It’s not just that Brass is the most successful section in the bandroom, the classroom, and the bedroom. When you stop on the field at the Yale Bowl, and you feel the rush, you know that you’re in the right place.

So what does it take to be in the YPMB Brass section? The courage to say, “I am the greatest.” The intelligence to know, “We are the greatest.” The honesty to be able to say, “Hi, I’m better than you.” The responsibility of knowing, “If it weren’t for us, there wouldn’t even be a band.”

(Notice that you shouldn’t worry about musical skills, or range, or anything like that. It’s all about character.)

Beyond that, the Brass section has more than its fair share of the fun. Whether we’re going bowling, rocking out on our hip section cheers, or just watching movies and getting dinner together, Brass knows how to have a good time and look good doing it. Yeah, every section is going to tell you they’re the coolest, sexiest, blah-blah-blah. But at the end of the day, they all just want to hang out with Brass– and actions speak louder than words, amiright?

And when the music starts, watch out. We can get pretty loud.
