Charts by Lou Donaldson (“Blues Walk”); Jackie McLean (“Appointment in Ghana”); Curtis Fuller (“Alamode”); a collection of Duke Pearson works (“Minor League,” “Ready When You Are, CB,” “New Girl”); “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” by Jerome Kern, feat. Hersh Gupta GH’20 (saxophone) and Jason Altshuler ES’22 (trumpet); and “Lehmer’s Machine” by Yale Jazz Ensemble trombonist Michael Gancz MY’21.

The Yale Jazz Ensemble (YJE) is a seventeen-piece big band that performs a wide variety of music, from Yale’s Benny Goodman archive to the newest and most progressive jazz compositions. The Ensemble has performed extensively in the United States and internationally at such noted venues as New York’s Village Vanguard and Iridium jazz clubs, and London’s Ronnie Scott’s. The YJE has performed with or opened for The Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, the Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band, the World Saxophone Quartet, Jane Ira Bloom, Jimmy Owens, and Branford Marsalis. On April 15, 2019, the Yale Jazz ensemble will be performing at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, featuring Randy Brecker and Wayne Escoffery.
