John Bay:
“YJE started in the fall of 1965 (if memory serves) as a student-run organization billed as the “Yale Jazz Orchestra”, under the leadership of Jack D. Lantz. Our early repertoire probably left something to be desired. Henry Mancini, Glenn Miller - not that there’s anything wrong with that. Later on we widened our horizons a bit. Adding talents like Jay Gitlin and John Lissauer gave us a big lift. Lissauer composed at least one piece that became one of our mainstays.”
